RFID identification of stainless steel system pallets at high temperatures

Description

In ceramics drying, system pallets made of stainless steel must be reliably identified at an ambient temperature of approx. 80 °C. The conditions are difficult, since the pallets are made of stainless steel and the temperature range can reach up to 80 °C. Up to now, four bar code labels were used on each pallet. It was found, however, that the constant thermal stress leads to an increased rate of erroneous readings. A solution is therefore sought that can better handle the high temperatures.

Solution

An RFID solution consisting of RFM 32 stationary RFID read/write system, TFM 05 1510.210 RFID disc transponders and MA 204i modular interfacing units is used. This solution replaces the previously used bar code labels. Now only one data carrier is needed per pallet instead of the four labels previously required. This reduces assembly costs. The RFID solution ensures reliable identification in spite of difficult environmental conditions.
